This paper explores the challenges of quantitative data collection in policy research, drawing on three extensive studies conducted in India over seven years funded by different government institutions such as ICSSR and NCW, ICHR and Oxfam. These studies examined reservation policies, women in cyberspace, and the inclusivity of PM Krishi Sinchai Yojana across seven Hindi-speaking states. The paper highlights issues such as sampling bias, logistical hurdles, cultural sensitivity, and data access challenges from government offices. It emphasizes strategies like robust planning, pilot testing, ethical considerations, and interdisciplinary approaches. Additionally, it underscores the importance of stakeholder engagement, adaptive technology, and local community involvement. By addressing these challenges, the paper provides practical insights for enhancing the rigor and effectiveness of field-based policy research.
