The study aimed to examine the status of the reservation policy in educational institutions in Bihar. Employing a mixed-method approach, it covered four universities representing different geographical regions of the state: Magadh University, Patna University, B. N. Mandal University, and Tilka Manjhi University. Respondents included students from reserved and unreserved categories, as well as teachers and institutional officials. The findings indicate that while the reservation policy is relatively well-implemented in the context of admissions, the infrastructure and overall functioning of colleges and departments are severely lacking. Furthermore, appointments of officials and teachers are increasingly being made on a contractual basis, bypassing the applicability of the reservation policy.
